For over 20 years, Charles Rogers dedicated his life to Fork Union Military Academy as an athlete, coach, and employee. Sadly, Rogers lost his life in a battle with cancer on March 23, 2004.
What he did for FUMA as well as the thousands of cadets for which he cared deeply, however, will not be soon forgotten.
For the majority of the past three decades, Rogers was a major part of Fork Union Military Academy. Rogers first came to the school as a post-graduate (PG) basketball player in 1982 from Laurens, South Carolina. The 6-foot-8 forward fine-tuned his athletic skills while earning a basketball scholarship to Virginia Tech.
Rogers then returned to FUMA after college to serve as TAC officer and high school basketball coach. Rogers led the Fork Union High School team to consecutive winning seasons and playoff appearances while also serving as the assistant coach on the PG team.
Coach Roger's lasting legacy was his ability to impart invaluable life lessons that will be carried on for future generations of Fork Union cadets.
One former PG basketball player stated, "Coach Rogers was a guy everyone looked up to. He embodied every facet of the school. He upheld the military aspect of the school as one of the most respected TAC officers, but he was also a great coach and mentor for many of the students."
Coach Rogers gave so much of his life to Fork Union, and his contributions continue even in death. Each year, you can give money to a worthy cadet by contributing to Charles Rogers' scholarship fund (SEE BELOW).
